Kyle Sweet (1956 – 2009)
Category: Prayer
Update 6th March, 2009 – I have just been inform that Kyle Sweet has passed on to be with the Lord. It has been a long, tough journey for the Sweet family. Let us pray that they will find all the peace and comfort they need at this time and that the same healing hands that made the blind to see and lame to walk will indeed heal the pain in their lives.
The following note is taken from Michael Sweet’s website – “Words cannot express how my life changed the day that I met my bride and the impact she has had on my life, my children’s lives and the many other lives she has touched along the way. She is a living angel and the kindest, sweetest person I’ve ever known. I love you Babe…….”
Original post: Anyone who’s been a Christian for a while will have heard of the band Stryper. Stryper was one of the first Christian metal bands and one of the biggest rock acts of the 1980’s. They toured with bands like Motley Crue and Iron Maiden, and packed out stadiums all around the world. Then in the early 1990’s the band split. However, in 2005 they were back with a brand new CD Reborn, a hard hitting and focused album.
Now it’s 2009 and once again Stryper are about to release another new CD, Murder by Pride. However, for one band member, co-founder, guitarist, and lead singer, Michael Sweet, this is far from an exciting and happy time. His wife, Kyle Sweet, is extremely ill right now with cancer and is fighting for her life.
Below is a note from Michael Sweet. Please read this note and take the time to pray for Kyle and the Sweet family. This is a hard time for them, let’s not let them face it alone.
Thanks in advance for your prayers, Chris
Note from Michael Sweet taken from MichaelSweet.com:
“I’m sitting here by Kyle’s side in a room at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and I felt led to write this letter as some form of comfort as we walk through the darkest time of our lives. As you all know, my wife Kyle was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in February of 2007. Standing by her side and seeing her physically and emotionally face this horrible disease, I’ve realized that not only is she the love of my life, she is an angel and the most inspirational person I’ve ever known. I’ve stood faithful and hopeful in prayer through this battle, yet to see my love suffer and endure the pain and discomfort that she has over the past two years breaks my heart into a million pieces. No one deserves this, especially Kyle.
You see, she is the backbone of our family, a pillar of strength, and as unselfish as one can be. She doesn’t want any credit for anything she does but truth be known – she deserves all credit. She is the perfect wife, mother and such a blessing to everyone she meets. I constantly wrestle with the reality of this monster that invades her body and I can tell you that it’s been a tremendous struggle to see my wife so sick. I have felt so helpless and at times completely hopeless, but I know I must be strong for my family and be that pillar of strength too, as she’s been throughout our marriage of almost 23 years.
When our son Michael was born, Kyle was hospitalized for over 2 weeks due to a severe blood clot in her leg. I was on tour at the time and I would fly home after shows to be with her and then fly out to catch the next show. I remember that time as if it was yesterday and I recall how brave and strong Kyle was then. It was a testament of her courage and an example to me. She never complained and she picked up the pieces and carried on with taking care of our newborn son, Michael.
Kyle is also a very accomplished and successful makeup artist. This is actually how we met. She drove from Cape Cod to LA in the early eighties with a degree in child psychology but once there, she decided to pursue a career in makeup. Through hard work and perseverance, she went on to work in film and television. Her career had not even peaked and she chose to give it all up to spend 100% of her time raising Michael and Ellena as I toured the world. She sacrificed everything for us and again this was a testament of who Kyle is – a loving, caring, unselfish wife and mother. She wouldn’t have it any other way. She has given me so much joy and I guess I just wanted to give all of you a glimpse of who Kyle is and the character that she bestows.
We covet and cherish every prayer from everyone of you and I thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts as I sit here by my love. If you can, pray for Kyle’s body and immune system to gain enough strength to fight so her body can get back to some sort of normal state, specifically her digestive system. She hasn’t eaten for days due to nausea and it won’t pass. She’s very weak and I just want to take her home.
I’ll update as time permits. Kyle sends her love too. She lit up when I told her that I would post and ask all of you to pray. It means so much. More than you know.
Always,
Michael”

Is there any new news on Kyle?
Cindi, the latest is that Michael has canceled some shows to be with Kyle. I believe she is still very poorly. Michael put the following note on his website… “As many of our friends and fans know, Kyle has been battling cancer for some time now and after recent developments, and with much prayer and consideration, we believe it to be in the best interest of all for me to spend time with, and caring for, my wife. ”
Now would be a great time to pray for the Sweets. So keep praying that God’s will is done in their lives and that he gives them the strength to cope with what is happening. Thanks and blessings.
Kyle & Michael Sweet,
Your family has lived the example for all of us to see.
Two people together, who have devoted thier lives to one another,
with your convicted values about God’s ways leading you.
It has been my joy to listen to your music over the years,
and understanding how much you two have clung to one another
like glue over your years together, will add so much more
everytime I listen to your music in the future, because Stryper’s
music IS reflective of the foundation built only because you two
committed to building a Genuinely Loving Family.
Thank YOU two, and Thank God for using the Sweet’s
as an example of the joy God’s creation of marriage, brings,
when done with Him as our guide.
Thank You KYLE for ALL you have GIVEN,
as “Giving” is what it is ALL about!!!
When I see Michael’s bedrock faith and perserverance to Kyle, it moves me to tears. When I hear him sing songs like “Honestly”, and “Together As One”, I know he must have written them out of his overwhelming love and devotion to her. He, as well as the Lord, surely has been her rock of strength during this challenging time of their faith. My prayers go out to you Michael, and Kyle, and your children, that God wrap His loving arms around you all and give you strength to stand, no matter what the outcome. That your faith will be unwavering, because God can do the miraculous! When men walk away and say “It’s impossible’, that’s when the Lord moves to get Him some glory!
The music of Stryper has much sentimental meaning to me. It was the music of Stryper playing in the background in 1989, when my husband Craig and I fell in love.My husband is another example of a rock of unwaivering faith. He has stood by my side weeping and praying in the night when I too was battling a long agonizing, horrifically painful disease. His prayers helped me to perservere. In 2006, we both thought that death was surely at my door, after a week of a raging infection, that most likely had traveled into my bloodstream. He told me how he paced the floor all night, crying, interceding, and travailing for God to let me live, and not die. He did not want anyone else, or have to start over again, or have his children lose their mother. Miraculously, the next morning after over a week of mental confusion, and dementia, from my blood being poisoned by the infection, the fog began to clear, and I began to feel like my old self again! Glory to God! I truly thank God for godly men like Craig and Michael who dare to have, (as my now deceased Pastor use to call it,) “A pit bull faith mentality”.They dare to believe God against all the odds!
I totally agree with you Dee. I too thank God for the example that men of faith, like Michael Sweet and your husband, can trust in God no matter what comes their way. As I write this I am saddened that Kyle has now passed on to be with the Lord, but thankful that her fight is now over and that in Christ she has won!
I’m so sorry Michael I will pray for you and your family.
Dear jesus I pray that you continue to help the sweet family through their difficult journey, and let them know that people from Australia and all over the world are praying for them. Please jesus i pray that you let Michael know that the reason kyle is not with us anymore is because Jesus loved her so much that he wanted her in to go to heaven and have a peaceful eternal life with Jesus. How lucky is she. I pray Jesus, that you let Michael and his family know that he will be re-united with Kyle in Heaven. Amen.
Dear Micheal,
Hi there! i’m with you in your battle. You touch my life with your words put in your song and the way you live. You not only sing but you also live out.
I will continue to pray for you Micheal and your whole family.
In Him,

Michael Sweet has moved on and remarried since Kyle passed away. He is now married to Lisa. I hope they will be very happy together.
this is all so stupid you people are completely brainwashed. If there was any kind of god ( which there isnt) who cared about you why the F&^K would it (god) give a completely decent woman a cancer and kill her? IF god actually cared about any of you god wound;t have given this woman cancer in the first place
Thanks for your rant… Firstly, God doesn't give anyone cancer. We live in a world tainted by sin and most cancers are a result of human failing (not God's). We eat food tainted by greed (GMO products) that have been sprayed with all kinds of stuff and had their genetic structures altered by Frankenstein type scientists. We breathe air and drink water that have also been polluted. Our cars put out pollution as do our factories. Some smoke, drink heavily, and do drugs. With all of this combined (plus lots more) should we be surprised that some of us will get sick? Secondly, God is in the healing business yes, but sometimes the healing that happens is internal (spiritual). Yes, God heals some people physically, but God is more interested in where we will spend eternity and as such he oftentimes heals the inner person.
Just because we believe in God and decide to follow Him does not mean we get a get out jail free card with respect to living in this tainted world. Christians still suffer, feel pain and experience joy, just like everyone else on this planet. Following God is not going to make us rich, powerful, and healthy at all times, unless spiritually speaking of course.
Cancer is nasty. My own father died of cancer and it was not nice to watch him die. And my heart goes out to anyone who has or is dealing with this horrible condition. Do I have an answer why God didn't answer my prayers to heal my father physically? No. But hopefully in the short time I spent with him before his death he allowed God into his life to heal him on the inside… and hopefully he is now sitting with God.
You call it stupid to believe in this… I call it hope. What is your eternal hope in?
Blessings
Chris
