Eternity Insurance

I was praying this morning and it occurred to me that people buy lots of insurance in this life – home insurance, car insurance, savings insurance, medical and health insurance, just in case something should happen to them, and life insurance, to leave something for their loved ones. I think it’s good that people can think ahead of time, to set things up for themselves and their loved ones. But what about after life?

It seems to me that we can think about what will happen tomorrow and try our best to prepare for whatever may come, except one thing. You see, many people don’t think about what happens after they die. Maybe it’s because they are scared and that by ignoring this part of the circle of life they can somehow bypass it. But ignorance isn’t always bliss, and what you don’t know, or try not to think of, can hurt you.

Today I want to offer you not life insurance, but eternity insurance. Part of my vocation as a minister of the Gospel is to tell people how they can prepare not just for this life, but for the life to come. Jesus told us in John 10:10 that he came into this world that we could have a full life – literally this verse translates that he came that we wouldn’t just exist, but truly live.

So how do we get this eternity insurance, and how much does it cost? Well, here’s the best part – are you ready for this? It’s free! “Free?” I hear you say. Yes free. As a person who pays for car insurance and extended medical insurance I know just how much insurance can cost, but Jesus offers us eternity insurance for nothing. The only thing he asks is that we believe in our heart that he is Lord and Savior, that he died upon a cross for the sins of the world, and that he rose from the dead three days later. That’s it… what a deal!

However, we live in a world that constantly tells us that nothing is free, that everything costs something. Nothing could be further from the truth, because the one thing that we all need is 100%, no money down, free.

FREE!

Maybe the future scares you. Maybe you think you’ve done too many bad things and that God wants nothing to do with you. Maybe you haven’t thought too much about what happens after this life. Wherever you are, whatever you’ve done, maybe it’s time to take seriously what happens when we shed this mortal coil. Now is the time to plan for the future. Now is the time to consider carefully if what the Bible says is true.

Jesus paid the price for this eternity insurance upon a cross, and he signed the paperwork in his own blood. All you have to do is reach out to him and take him up on his offer of a “full life,” not only for now, but for forever!
