The Best Is Yet To Come
On Sunday evening my family and I watched the finale of season 2 of the BBC produced show Robin Hood. Based on the legend, the show follows the exploits of Robin and his gang and includes all of the major characters from the book – Robin, Maid Marian, Will Scarlet, Alan A Dale, Little John, the Sheriff, and Guy of Gisbourne. In the very last episode Maid Marian declares her undying love for Robin to his sworn enemy Guy of Gisbourne. A brief recap: Throughout the series Guy had been living in the hopes that Marian would one day fall in love with him. Instead Marian tells him that she could never love him and in a fit of sheer rage he runs Marian through with his sword.
It was a sad moment to say the least. Marian had been an integral character throughout two seasons and now she was dead. I know it’s only a show but I had really gotten to like, and feel for, all of the characters. However, in one foul swoop everything had changed.
Reading the reviews of the soon to be released Robin Hood season 3 DVD there are two main schools of thought,
1) Marian is dead; things hadn’t worked out as they thought and so the show won’t be the same – therefore there’s no point watching it anymore
2) season 3 is the best season yet!
This is a little like life, isn’t it? Something happens that we don’t care for, or like, and we are left with the choice to either give up, because life will never be the same again, or carry on, hoping that the best is yet to come. And believe me when I say that for the believer the best IS yet to come! How can I say this? Especially when there is so much pain and heartache. And we all know that there will be times in life that will just suck the passion and desire right out of us, leaving us feel dry and empty? When it comes to life I am going to trust God’s Word and I can safely say that the best is yet to come because God promises in his Word that Heaven waits for those who would put their trust in his Son, Jesus.
I know what it’s like to lose. I know what it is to fail. I have stumbled and fallen so many times. And I know all too well that sometimes in life it is hard to see past the moment. But it’s at times like this when we need to remind ourselves that the best is yet to come, that the promise of Heaven that Jesus gave in John 14:1-6 still holds true today…
“Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
So are you ready to give up and just let go of all you’ve been believing in and working towards because of fear, regret, or because things haven’t worked out like you wanted? Or will you keep believing and pushing on knowing and believing above all that the best is yet to come?
