Let Us Remember

poppymainToday, November 11th, is Remembrance Day here in North America and therefore a national holiday. As you take time off work to spend with your family and friends I urge you to think of those brave soldiers, both men and women, who have given their lives to protect the freedoms we enjoy on a daily basis, as well as those to continue to fight for that same cause.

Let us also take the time to remember those men and women of faith who gave their lives for something bigger than themselves, some paying the ultimate price with their lives. Let us remember our brothers and sisters who have gone before us and let us learn from them and their lives…

Martin Luther (the father of the Reformation)

William Wilberforce (a politician who bought about the abolition of the slave trade in Great Britain)

Martin Luther King Jr. (a pastor and civil rights activist who fought for equal rights for blacks)

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (a German pastor and theologian who opposed Hitler’s regime and helped rescue many Jews in WW2 Germany)

Jim Elliot and Nate Saint (missionaries who gave their lives to share God’s Word)

Corrie Ten Boom (a woman who helped save Jews from the Nazis, who later went on to do some extraordinary things for the Lord)

William Tyndale (the man who translated the NT into English and later paid for it with his life)

Father Damien (a priest who worked with lepers until he himself contracted leprosy and died from the disease)

Helen Keller (A woman who changed the way of life for the blind and the deaf)

William Hunter (the boy martyr who refused to recant his faith)

Peter Marshall (a Scottish-American preacher, who twice served as Chaplain of the United States Senate)

…and on and on the list goes.

Let us take time today to thank God for all the brave men and women who have and still continue to lay down their lives in the pursuit of something bigger than themselves, something bigger than us all – Justice and Freedom!

And let us never forget their sacrifice.

Have a great day!
Chris

  1. We owe so much to those who gave their all that we might be free. I appreciate that you included the martyrs and people of great courage and valour who paid the ultimate price for speaking up. Thanks for Sharing!

  2. Amen! What a rich (and bloody) heritage we have. Let’s play Theocracy’s “Martyr” in remembrance!

    • What we must always remember is that our freedom, both physically and spiritually, was paid for in blood. That is humbling!
