One Nation Under… anybody but God!

Category: Faithblogs

onegodmainI just read an article about a man in San Francisco who complained that a government building had some religious symbols representing Christmas on display. The man is an atheist and said he was offended that a government office would have such disregard for people especially when the government is supposed to be separate from religion. The end result – all religious symbols (reading between the lines… Christian symbols) were removed from the building. The man has now declared that he will work to getting these religious symbols removed from all public places in San Fran.

Another article I read in another online newspaper told the story of a woman who went around a small shopping mall in her home town (again in the US) and proceeded to remove “Christian” symbolism and throw it in the trash. The sad thing is, instead of being arrested for causing damage to other people’s property, she was sent a letter from the owner’s of the mall and told that all remaining religious symbols would be removed from within the mall.

Yet another story in another newspaper focused on a Christmas singing group (again in America) that, because of atheistic and agnostic tendencies, decided to omit singing anything that would be deemed as religious. Instead they sang songs about Santa, reindeer’s, Frosty, and so on, but not about Jesus, wise men, or anything else to do with Christianity or the Nativity.

To be honest I have read several other stories that highlighted the grumpiness of certain people at this time of year. To be honest, most people I know, whether Christian or not, just love Christmas and what it stands for. But as the old saying goes a few bad apples…

A time is coming when we may no longer be able to celebrate Christmas because some Scrooges and Grinches decided that they didn’t like Christmas, and as such dedicate their lives to making our lives just as miserable as theirs (let’s face it they cannot, if they regard their fellow human being, find joy in something that would seek to end a festive time that millions of people enjoy on a yearly basis). Maybe it is because they didn’t get that Superman cape or BB Gun, or maybe over the years they just saw all of the commercialism and capitalism that surrounds this time of year and grew more and more cynical. Or maybe because of their religious beliefs they feel the need to speak out – what makes me laugh, with regards to the last point, is that Christians often get called out for forcing their ideas and agendas, when in all actual fact it is often those opposed to Christianity who shout the loudest and are more forceful with their anti-Christian and anti-Christmas sentiments.

Let’s hope and pray that these people get a visit from The Spirit and that they learn to live and let live. I don’t personally go around telling others that their lifestyle and choices offend and upset me. Instead I will be the better person this Christmas and say…

“To all, whether cynic, believer, atheist, agnostic, Scrooge, Grinch, child, adult, male, female, and anyone else who is living and breathing, I pray that you have a great Christmas and that we can all learn some humility during the holidays… the same kind of humility that we saw in God sending His Son into this world to seek and save the lost.”

Happy CHRISTmas one and all!!!
