New Year, New Decade, New Opportunities
2010. The year that Arthur C Clarke wrote about (this is the year we supposedly make contact
) and the year in which many of the 1980′s post apocalyptic movies were set. Well, here we are and it’s not quite as bad as any of the movies made it out to be.

So, 2010. What does this year hold for us? Is this year going to be a year of struggle and challenge, or is it going to be a year of realized goals and dreams. I think if we’re all honest every year has it’s fair share of both, so why should this year be any different?
At the beginning of this year I personally find myself in a place of challenge and opportunity. The challenge is to continue on with what God has bought my way thus far (this website and completing my first book); the opportunity has yet to be realized (I know this sounds cryptic, but it will all be made known in good time). The future is not plain to see for the St John clan right now, there’s an air of mystery to our journey, but I find this an exciting place to be.
For some, an uncertain future means many sleepless nights, added stresses, and health damaging worry. However, the Bible tells us not to worry about anything because God has everything in hand. The future is not a mystery to God; it’s not like it’s ever going to take God by surprise. The Bible also tells us that He has planned all of our days, knowing when we rise and fall, when we succeed and fail. And so, we all need to learn to let God be God.
This year I pray that like the St John clan you might trust God for all of your needs and have faith that He has a plan for you and your life. Ten years ago I was living half way across the world and working in a shop selling computer and console games. I hadn’t yet received my call into ministry and a pastor/preacher was the last thing I ever wanted to become. And yet God knew the incredible journey that I and my family would embark on to begin living out His plan.
Among other things, in the last six years we left our family and friends in Guernsey, UK, to come to Canada, we’ve welcomed new family members, we’ve lost family members, we’ve moved house five times (and we’re looking to move again!), I’ve studied for and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree, I’ve Pastored in three churches, and begun this website and a book. All this to say, trust God with this year and this decade.
There’s an old saying that I love that goes, “Where God guides He provides, Where He leads He provides for all needs.” I personally know this to be true and, even though I still have moments of fear and doubt, I know that it will continue to be true for me and my family, as well as every believer who would trust in God and His leading.
God bless y’all in 2010… keep it Hardcore for Jesus!
