I Have A Dream
Category: FaithblogsToday in the USA is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. day. Martin Luther King Jr. was an amazing man. He stood up for justice when justice seemed but an illusion. He stood up for righteousness when godlessness was growing all around. This day celebrates the birthday of MLK, 15th Jan. 1929.
One of the most famous messages that MLK spoke was the I Have A Dream speech. Filled with passion, power, and faith, MLK spoke this message at a time when racial bigotry was rampant in our society. Below is the actual footage of the speech.
Sadly MLK’s life was cut short – he was assassinated on April 4th 1968. But his legacy lives on. As a result of his non-violent protests and marches he laid a foundation of racial tolerance for all generations to follow. His dream was to see white kids and black kids holding hands and playing together, what an amazing dream!
Thinking about dreams… what are you dreaming for? What would you like to see happen in your lifetime or as a result of your life? Maybe you dream of a day when we will no longer pollute our skies and seas; maybe you long for a day when cancer will be no more; maybe you are hoping for the day when our children will no longer pick on one another at school.
One thing that Dr. MLK showed us was that dreams don’t ever come true unless we share them, unless we work for them. What would have happened if MLK had kept his dream to himself? He may have not been assassinated, but would things have changed as much as they have?
So what is your dream? And are you willing to work to make it happen?
