Damaged Goods

damagedmainI was in a store the other day looking buying some groceries (it always seems like I’m shopping for food). Anyways, I was in the produce section choosing some bananas and picked the nicest looking bunch… all the spotted, going black ones I left.

As I continued shopping and came across a section that had products that were damaged in some way that had been heavily discounted, items like dented canned food, toilet paper that had been crushed, and even a DVD, the case of which was slightly damaged.

Many people, including myself, simply turn their noses up at damaged goods in a store. They would rather pay out the extra to get something that would appear to be a better choice. And that’s fine, after all no one wants hard or moldy bread. But sometimes we find ourselves looking at people as damaged goods, and that is wrong. After all the Bible tells us that we are all damaged goods – Romans 3:23 “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

In life people get damaged, sometimes it’s their fault, other times life just happens. The question is, how often do we choose the damaged ones over the “good ones”?
