The One Constant

“I, the LORD, never change.” Malachi 3:6 (God’s Word Translation)

I was online last evening looking at some of the new technology that I may be able to utilize in this ministry and was blown away by the advances in the the world of technology. I’m no techno-geek or scientist, but here is a quick recap of some of the things I read about and saw: I sat and watched a few minutes of a live concert as it was actually happening live. I watched as one v-logger (video blogger) spoke with people from all over the world, via the web, live on his website.  I read about self publishing and delivery on demand, where you pay for a product such as music, games, TV shows, and movies, and then simply download them.  And I read about how in 5-10 years the biggest broadcasters in TV will broadcast mainly via the internet. The more I saw and read, the more it seemed to me that the world, as presented in the sci-fi movies of yesteryear, is in all reality, and all too quickly, becoming the world of fact today.

I used to pride myself on keeping up with all of the latest technology, and still do in some respects, but all I can say is, WOW! I can not believe the advancements in current technology! One amazing fact I found out, while researching the potential for using the internet for outreach, was that there are currently between 800 million to 1.1 billion computers out there in the world that are connected to the World Wide Web. When I first found this out I was literally taken aback, but got really excited – after all, that’s around one billion people, or groups of people, that we as Christians have an opportunity of reaching out to, via the web, with the Gospel.

I’m not alone in feeling dizzy at the frenetic pace of technological advancements. Many people feel the same, some even feeling threatened and “out of touch.”  For example, this weekend I got to show my wife’s cousin some of the things I am working on for HardcoreFaith.com and she admitted that she was both wowed and freaked-out at the same time. She went on to say that she both welcomed, yet felt extremely apprehensive about what will happen in the future.

To cut to the chase, everything is changing, and fast, “head-spinningly” fast – as in the fact that the latest computer you buy today is outdated tomorrow.  Yes, things are changing that fast.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to speak to many of my family members and friends about the very issue of all the changes taking place in the world of technology, and nine times out if ten the conversation comes back round to whether there is anything that is constant, unchanging, and unmovable.  The truth is all of us are somewhat scared by all of the changes and want to believe that there is something that is solid and unchanging.  And that is why it is so important that believers everywhere share the life saving Gospel message with people anytime and anyway they can.

Scripture tells us that there is one constant and that this one constant is God, who, the Bible tells us, is the same yesterday, today and forever!  We may not be able to predict how things in the world of technology will change and how much stuff in the futuristic movies will actually come to pass, but if we can show people the one core truth that God never changes, then I believe lives will be changed.
